Re "Children need more than free glasses" (Another View, Nov. 30): I agree that every person should have proper eye care. However, it seems every year we have more "Band-Aid legislation," requiring more and more of schools to do the things parents should be doing. If parents are not getting their children proper medical help, eye exams, nutrition, etc., it seems to me that applying a bandage by requiring an eye exam, immunizations or healthy meals is not fixing the problem. It is fixing the outcome of the problem. Parents need to care for their children. What is the old saying? Give a person a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Let's start teaching parents how to be parents for a lifetime.
