Blackbird Kitchen & Bar to reopen, following unceremonious closure in Sept.

Now here’s some news that caught us off guard. Blackbird Kitchen & Bar (1015 9th St., Sacramento), which abruptly closed in late September, plans to reopen soon. The principals involved are keeping the full details quiet for now, but expect updates about the reopening soon. (That’s Blackbird co-owner and chef Carina Lampkin, pictured in the restaurant’s better days).

Blackbird’s raw bar was a hit with seafood lovers in Sacramento, but management issues behind the scenes and other factors were apparently behind its demise. Employees were given the news about Blackbird’s shut down in an email, which prompted some uproar in the local restaurant community.

Blackbird’ Facebook page meanwhile shows the image of an egg about to hatch in a tree, perhaps suggesting this phoenix will rise soon.

Will Blackbird be able to mend any lingering hurt feelings? Will its raw bar be resurrected and the restaurant regain its culinary footing once again? We’ll fill you in with the details as they come through.
