Stop by cafe at Sacred Heart home tour

Tickets are going fast for an annual Sacramento tradition — the Sacred Heart Holiday Home Tour.

Featuring five landmark homes in the Fabulous Forties neighborhood, this major community event celebrates its 40th year. More than 3,400 patrons are expected.

Among the homes is a large Tudor mansion that was featured on the first tour in 1973. Starting Friday, the self-guided walking tour begins on 38th Street between M Street and Stockton Boulevard and winds its way through East Sacramento, ending on 47th Street. It takes about two hours to complete.

Of course, there will be food. A holiday boutique and cafe will be open starting Friday afternoon at Sacred Heart School, 856 39th St., Sacramento. The cafe will serve light refreshments, tasty desserts and warm beverages (including specialty coffee) plus wines and champagne. The boutique features home accessories (including some shown in designer displays on the tour), hostess gifts, holiday ornaments, candles, candy, jams and jellies, teacher gifts, wreaths and topiaries. No tour ticket is necessary for the cafe or boutique.

Designers who worked on this year’s homes include Beyond the Garden Gate, Haus Home and Gifts, Kerrie Kelly Designs, JIL Designs and Steve Reynolds. All proceeds help support Sacred Heart School’s programs with some funds going towards school scholarships. Learn more at
