DeMarcus Cousins’ joke about injury seen as jab at Derrick Rose

Kings center DeMarcus Cousins might not have meant to make fun of Derrick Rose, but that hasn’t stopped many from assuming that is what he did Tuesday night.

Cousins sat out Tuesday’s loss to Oklahoma City Thunder with a sprained right ankle, but is expected to play Friday when the Kings host the Los Angeles Lakers.

Cousins said this as he left the Kings locker room Tuesday night.

Rose is out for the season after surgery on his right knee for a torn meniscus. Rose missed the entire 2012-13 season recovering from a torn ACL in his left knee. Rose’s comeback was the subject of an ad campaign by adidas.

Too late for that for Cousins. Cousins rarely gets the benefit of the doubt from media, especially media outside of Sacramento that do not know his penchant for joking around with reporters.

I can only imagine the reception Cousins will receive when the Kings play at Chicago. That game is March 15.
