Marysville teen dies in early morning crash in Yuba County

Published: Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013 - 6:33 pm

A 17-year-old Marysville girl died early this morning when the vehicle in which she was riding ran off the road and overturned in Yuba County.

The crash occurred shortly after midnight as 19-year-old Richard D. Hensley II of Citrus Heights was driving a 1998 Nissan Frontier southbound on Feather River Boulevard north of Murphy Road. For some reason, Hensley steered the vehicle to the left, allowing it to go off the east edge of the roadway, according to a California Highway Patrol news release.

The vehicle rolled onto its roof as it left the road and continued into a drainage ditch, where it rolled back onto its wheels.

CHP officials said neither Hensley nor his passenger was wearing a seat belt, and both were ejected from the vehicle. The passenger, whose name has not been released pending notification of family, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hensley was transported to Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville with minor injuries.

The CHP reported that alcohol appears to have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
