Man convicted of robbing, beating pizza deliveryman outside Arden Arcade apartment

Published: Friday, Dec. 6, 2013 - 7:20 pm

A Sacramento County jury has found a previously convicted felon guilty in the January robbery and beating of a pizza deliveryman.

Jerry Totuff Adams, 23, today was convicted of carjacking, robbery, assault with a firearm and personally using a firearm. The jury also found him guilty of being a convicted felon in possession of a gun, according to a Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office news release.

In January, the victim was working as a pizza delivery driver and was sent to the Timberwalk Apartments on Howe Avenue in the Arden Arcade area. As the deliveryman approached the apartment, Adams approached him from behind with a gun and forced the victim to the ground. He took everything the victim had in his pockets, hit him in the head with the gun and ordered him to take off all his clothes, authorities said. Adams then hit the victim in the head with the gun again, leaving a large gash on the back of his head.

After Adams took the victim’s car and left, the victim ran to an apartment to call for help.

When a Sacramento County sheriff’s sergeant spotted Adams in the victim’s car, Adams sped through a red light and came to a stop on the front lawn of a home, then ran off.

Sacramento police officers, with the help of a neighbor, found Adams walking in the area and arrested him.

Adams is to be sentenced Jan. 10.
