Pregame notes: Kings will go with their 10 men against the Mavs

Published: Monday, Dec. 9, 2013 - 6:45 pm

Rudy Gay, Quincy Acy and Aaron Gray will not play for the Kings tonight against the Dallas Mavericks.

The trade that brought them from Toronto to the Kings is complete, but they still have to pass physicals that will be completed Tuesday.

Chuck Hayes, John Salmons, Greivis Vasquez and Patrick Patterson also have to complete their physicals in Toronto.

That leaves the Kings with 10 healthy players.

“We’re going to need everybody on the active roster to be able to chip in tonight,” said Kings coach Michael Malone. “We’ll get guys out when they need a blow but we’re going to need all 10 guys ready to play. Even though we made a trade we can’t use that as an excuse or a distraction that takes us away from the task at hand.”

The shorthanded Raptors managed to win Sunday night at the Los Angeles Lakers after the trade. But the Kings don’t have the fortune of playing the Lakers, who were adding Kobe Bryant to the mix. The Mavericks are also a better team than the Lakers.

Prediction time: The Kings haven’t shown they can be the most focused group and all that’s going on with the trade could be a factor tonight. Plus, the Mavericks are a good team.

Mavericks 103, Kings 94

My record: 12-6
