Slow, steady gas price declines have enabled motorists in the Sacramento area and statewide to save pennies per gallon at the pumps in recent weeks.

The average statewide price of regular unleaded gasoline fell 2 cents over the past month to $3.59 a gallon, according to the latest monthly gas price survey released by AAA.

In Northern California, the average price of $3.54 was down 5 cents from the Nov. 12 AAA survey. Sacramento came in at $3.47, down 2 cents from last month.

By comparison, AAA said, the national average was $3.26 a gallon, which was up 8 cents from the November survey.

“Gas prices statewide moved lower following the end of the summer driving season and Thanksgiving,” said Cynthia Harris, AAA Northern California spokeswoman. “Plentiful supplies, flat demand and falling crude oil prices combined for welcome relief at the pump for motorists for the upcoming holidays.”
