Eight people were hurt at a Folsom Starbucks after a sport-utility vehicle plowed into the store.

Six people were taken to area hospitals. One was in serious condition and the others suffered minor injuries, according to police.

The incident occurred about 2:50 p.m. when a Lexus SUV crashed into the Starbucks at 603 E. Bidwell St.

Both Folsom police and fire personnel responded to the scene.

The Lexus SUV driver was trying park her car when it accelerated over a barrier, entered East Bidwell Street before the driver turned around and traveled back toward the business, said Andrew Bates, Folsom Police officer.

“The car crashed through a side window and into the main area of the shop,” Bates said in a news release.

The driver and her passenger were not injured, but eight customers inside the store were hurt.

Although the investigation is ongoing, there is no indication that impairment, age or cell phone usage was a factor in the crash.
