Plenty is happening on two important fronts for the Kings.
First, new ownership/management under Vivek Ranadive is shaking up a team that appeared to be an impassive, dispirited outfit.
Moves to improve the trade for small forward Rudy Gay is a definite upgrade after a short but definitive sample of what the team offered indicates a serious, thoughtful approach to changing the Kings fortunes.
Is more to come? Power forward Jason Thompson could be available since the Kings now have several options in the frontcourt. Well see. Thompson finally could be allowed to thrive at power forward if he stays, and late-blooming NBA careers are possible.
Off the court, the struggle to determine if the city of Sacramento will pay a significant portion of the cost for a downtown arena continues. Two sides are fighting about who will decide if hundreds of millions of public dollars will be spent. Will it be the City Council or voters?
Clearly, the Kings are front and center with growing interest. The days of the Kings as an afterthought, led by indifferent ownership and regarded with low-grade scorn by a weary fan base, seem to be over with good reason.
