Kings have largest home attendance increase in the NBA

Even with a slow start on the court, the Sacramento Kings have seen the largest boost in home attendance in the NBA.

Sports Business Daily reported Wednesday that the Kings’ average home game attendance jumped 24 percent through the first 12 home games of the season. The Kings averaged 15,969 spectators through those games, ranking it 21st out of 30 teams in the league.

Those figures mean the Kings filled Sleep Train Arena to an average of 92 percent of capacity. That figure ranks the team 14th in the NBA, according to separate figures kept by ESPN.

“It’s a testament to our fans,” Kings President Chris Granger said in an email. “They fought to keep us in Sacramento, and they continue to show their passion for this team through their unwavering support at our games. We know what they’ve done for us, and we will work tirelessly to make them proud, on and off the court.”

Last year at this time, the Kings were averaging 12,874 fans a night. That figure crept up as the season went along – even after the Maloof family reached an agreement to sell the franchise to Seattle investors – and finished the year at 13,749, last in the NBA.
