Two delivery men arrested after attempted bank break-in

Published: Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013 - 10:07 pm

Two men who were contracted to deliver The Sacramento Bee were arrested early Wednesday morning after they attempted to break into a bank on Folsom Boulevard, Sacramento police report.

Tou Yang and Fue Yang, both 25, of Sacramento, were both being held at the Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of burglary and conspiracy, both felonies. Bond for each was set at $10,000.

At 4:50 a.m. Wednesday, the two men apparently made entry through a side door to the Wells Fargo Bank, 5700 Folsom Blvd., according to police.

The alarm was set off, and officers quickly responded to the scene. They noticed that a van was driving in the vicinity, within a block of the bank, and stopped it.

“There was evidence found inside the vehicle linking them to the burglary,” said Sgt. Matt Young. “There were burglary tools, and things of that nature.”

Officers also noticed that the van was also carrying a number of copies of The Sacramento Bee.

“It appears they were in the process of going to deliver newspapers,” said Young.

The two men were arrested. It was not known whether anything was taken from the bank.

“It was good police work,” Young said. “They got there fairly quickly and was able to catch them before they made off.”

Pam Dinsmore, director of community affairs for The Sacramento Bee, issued the following statement about the Yangs:

“The two gentlemen who were arrested may have had a relationship with Bennefield Distribution, which has a contract with The Bee for distribution of the newspaper,” she said. “They are not employed by the newspaper.”

Dinsmore said the two were responsible for filling newspaper boxes for single copy sales in the area.

It was not known how long the two men had worked with Bennefield Distribution. Calls to the company were not returned.
