Sacramento City Councilman Steve Cohn has been elected 2014 chairman of the Sacramento Area Council of Governments board of directors.

SACOG said Yolo County Supervisor Don Saylor was voted in as vice chairman.

Cohn will chair a 31-member board representing six counties and the 22 cities. SACOG provides transportation planning and funding for the greater Sacramento region and serves as a public forum for multiple region-wide endeavors.

“In 2014, I look forward to leading the board in preparing an update to the 2035 Metropolitan Transportation Plan/Sustainable Communities Strategy, which helps the region meet air quality goals through a comprehensive plan for housing, land use and transportation,” Cohn said.

SACOG’s board meets at 9:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of each month at 1415 L St., suite 300, in Sacramento. Board meetings are open to the public. Agendas can be obtained at or by calling (916) 321-9000.
