Re Francis, Obama and political absurdity (Viewpoints, Dec. 8): Kathleen Parker almost had me believing she got the message of Pope Francis in his Joy of the Gospel exhortation. But she blew it when she said that our idolatry of money distracts us from the needy. The pope isn't talking about giving alms to the poor. He is talking about the powerful working to ensure the entire economic pie belongs to them. The pope calling that immoral is what got Limbaugh so upset. No one begrudges wealthy individuals their fortunes or their companies large profits until they understand that those two things are being obtained through the poverty wages their workers are being paid.
