49ers Report Card: Week 15

Published: Monday, Dec. 16, 2013 - 12:48 am
Last Modified: Monday, Dec. 16, 2013 - 8:53 am

REPORT CARD

Offense: The offense runs hot and cold throughout the game, but the 49ers score points when they need them – at the end of the half and in the fourth quarter when, after the Buccaneers pulled to within six, they went on a 17-play field-goal drive. Grade: B

Defense: Tampa Bay has two long touchdown drives that come mainly through the air. Other than that, the defense is dominant. The 49ers are two games away from going a full season without letting an opposing rusher reach 100 yards. Grade: A-

Special teams: The coverage units have been solid all season and are rewarded when Kendall Hunter pounces on a fumbled kickoff return in the end zone. Meanwhile, Phil Dawson has now hit 23 straight field goals and counting. Grade: A

Overall: The 49ers avoid being ensnared by a ‘trap game’ following an emotional win over Seattle, and and they take a big step toward their third consecutive playoff berth. Better yet: They’re on a roll with two weeks to go. Grade: A
