Congress would not be representative if military service was required

Re ""To clean up government, bring back mandatory military service" (Viewpoints, Dana Milbank, Dec. 2): I do not fully agree with the idea that in order to be a member of Congress, one should have to of completed two years of military service. On one hand, I would like to see this because of my own views, but I do not think it would be a good idea because some politicians have views against the military and so do many citizens. Therefore, having mandatory military service as a congressional requirement would mean many people would not be accurately represented in Congress. Also in this day in America, such a requirement could never be enacted because of all of the oppositions of military and wars. Though it could potentially solve some issues in Congress,I do not believe it is a realistic idea to be put into action.
