Burglary suspect arrested after walking in on occupant at Rocklin home

Published: Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013 - 3:31 pm

Rocklin police have arrested a burglary suspect who allegedly entered a home, then ran out when he encountered an individual inside the residence.

At 9:21 a.m. Tuesday, police received a 911 call reporting a residential burglary in progress on Brittany Court. While the caller was inside the home, the intruder entered through the interior garage door, according to a Police Department news release. When the intruder saw the occupant, he ran out the side garage door and jumped over the backyard fence onto Rocklin Road.

Officers arrived and searched the area, locating an individual who matched the description of the intruder. They arrested 27-year-old Steven Michael Unwin of Rocklin on suspicion of residential burglary, possession of burglary tools and being under the influence of a controlled substance. Unwin was booked into Placer County Jail.

Police encourage residents to take extra security precautions to protect their homes, by using deadbolts, audible alarms and security cameras. They note that thieves may be more active during the holidays, when homes and vehicles are likely to be filled with holiday gifts.
