Obama must take blame for health website problems

Re "Don't blame Obama for website" (Letters, Dec. 5): Few would argue with Tomas Jefferson's declaration that the cornerstone of democracy rests on the foundation of an educated electorate. So, when letter writer Norma Loudenslager blames private companies for the Affordable Care Act website's disaster and excuses the president from any responsibility, Jefferson's caution stands out. The writer must know that the president, as chief executive of the United States, is responsible for carrying out the acts of Congress. It still astounds me that Obama was so detached from his signature accomplishment that he had been unaware of the website's problems, but at least he has acknowledged responsibility. -- Harvey Swenson, Sacramento
