Re "Crisis lurks: CalSTRS reservoir will run dry" (Viewpoints, Dec. 18): I got a chuckle out of David Cranes' synopsis of California State Teachers Retirement Systems underfunded pension program. Cranes conclusions assume that the Legislature should reward the influential teachers union by giving CalSTRS billions of dollars to keep meeting its unsustainable pension obligations. If the reality of bankruptcy for CalSTRS scares him, so be it. That's the cost of gaming the system.
