Sacramento police officer suffers minor injuries during pursuit of wanted felon

Published: Friday, Dec. 20, 2013 - 5:22 pm

A Sacramento police officer is headed to the hospital as a precaution after a wanted felon trying to flee officers rammed several cruisers, according to authorities.

The man then lead officers on a pursuit that ultimately ended on inbound Highway 160 near Richards Boulevard, said police Officer Doug Morse. The car stopped after spike strips laid down by police deflated the tires.

Officers had been searching for the man, who had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, in the area of Kern Street and North Avenue in the Hagginwood neighborhood, Morse said. He said he did not know yet what the warrant was for.

When officers saw the man in a car, they attempted to stop him, but he failed to yield, crashing into the patrol cars before the pursuit. One officer sustained minor injuries and will be treated at a local hospital as a precaution.

A female passenger also was found to have an outstanding warrant for her arrest and was taken into custody.
