To improve California, just elect more women

Re “Big investor submits plan to carve up California” (The Buzz, Dec. 21): Silicon Valley venture capitalist Tim Draper proposes splitting California into six states, Dec 20, 2013 To improve California, some like venture capitalist Tim Draper suggest chopping California into six states, which would require congressional approval, or increasing the size of the state Legislature 100 times to 12,000 people. We have a simpler, far more cost-effective, less disruptive idea: Increase the number of women in the Legislature. Currently, only 32 of 120 members are women, down from 37 a decade ago. Studies have shown that increasing diversity in a deliberative body yields better results. Isn't that what we're after?
