Published: Monday, Dec. 23, 2013 - 6:02 pm

A homeless man was arrested Monday, accused of damaging an automated teller machine in Auburn.

Auburn police were dispatched to the 100 block of Sacramento St. at about 4 a.m. Dec. 17 regarding vandalism to an ATM on the exterior of a business. Officers found the machine had been severely damaged, but the owner of the machine determined that no money had been taken.

The investigating officer identified a possible suspect from surveillance and about 12:30 a.m. Monday, an officer located and questioned 50-year-old Bobby Jo Wright (pictured). According to police, when confronted with the video evidence, Wright admitted trying to pry open the machine to steal money from it.

Wright, who police described as homeless, was arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism and booked into Placer County Jail.
