Warm weather in Sacramento could tie or break record

The next two days will be warm, perhaps record-setting warm, in the Sacramento region.

The all-time high recorded in Sacramento for Dec. 24 occurred in 2005 when the temperature was 66 degrees. The National Weather Service predicts we will get close to that all-time high Tuesday: a maximum of 65 degrees is forecast.

Then, on Christmas day, another chance to tie or break a record. The record high on Dec. 25 was set in 1967 when the mercury reached 64 degrees in Sacramento.

NWS forecasters predict the high will be 63 degrees on Christmas afternoon. The normal high for late December in Sacramento is 53 degrees.

The detailed forecast from the NWS for the Sacramento region:

Today: Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 65. Light and variable wind.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 38. Calm wind.

Christmas day: Sunny, with a high near 63. North northwest wind 3 to 5 mph.

Wednesday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 38. Light north wind.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 65. Light north wind.

Thursday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 39.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 65.

Friday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 42.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 65.

Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 38.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 65.

Sunday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 36.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 64.
