Sacramento police request the community’s help in identifying the vehicle and driver that reportedly struck an 11-year-old boy Monday on Bruceville Road, then left the scene.
Police, along with the Sacramento Fire Department, responded to a report of an accident at Bruceville Road and Cosumnes River Boulevard about 5:23 p.m. The boy was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries.
Patrol officers and detectives talked with witnesses and one of two drivers whose vehicles struck the boy. They were told that two boys, the 11-year-old and a 12-year-old, were running southbound on Bruceville Road and crossed Cosumnes River Boulevard in the crosswalk. The 12-year-old made it across, but the 11-year-old was struck by a vehicle that was eastbound on Cosumnes River Boulevard, according to a Police Department news release. That vehicle stopped and remained at the scene, but the boy was also struck by a second vehicle that had just turned east on Cosumnes River Boulevard from Bruceville Road. The second vehicle did not stop at the scene after the boy went under the vehicle, but instead continued eastbound, police said.
Officers were unable to find the vehicle, which was described as a white or light-colored late 1970s to early 1980s Ford or Chevy-type full-size van with a raised roof cap. The roof cap was described as a camper or ice cream-type van top that allows the occupant to stand up inside the vehicle. Detectives do not have a description of the driver or any occupants.
