Pregame notes: Malone still praising the second unit

Published: Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013 - 4:03 pm

Kings coach Michael Malone still had good things to say about his reserves after their effort against Miami in Friday night’s win.

The San Antonio Spurs have the top scoring bench in the NBA and the Kings will need more from the bench tonight.

“We’ll need the same energy, effort and discipline against the best executing team in the NBA tonight,” Malone said.

Malone has quickly grown fond of Quincy Acy’s game off the bench and is showing more trust in Jimmer Fredette, allowing him to play in the fourth quarter against the Heat, too.

Malone also likes what Derrick Williams and Marcus Thornton have brought off the bench lately.

Prediction time: Tough to see the Kings winning unless they play close to a perfect game. They also haven’t shown they can bring the consistency needed to win on the road against good teams yet.

Spurs 102, Kings 94

My record: 15-13
