Put in cherry trees, not McKinley Village

Re "Park of cherry trees in works" (Our Region, Dec. 28): Let’s put a "McSakura" Park at the 48 acres near Capitol City Freeway in east Sacramento. The idea of a park filled with cherry trees has political appeal far beyond the proposed McKinley Village, with its 328 homes. A sea of cherry blossoms along the freeway and adjacent to McKinley Park would win praises from locals as well as passers-by. The rebirth of a fruit orchard would be a welcome neighbor to all of Sacramento. "Sakuramento" is a great idea, and the 48 acres is a great location. Remember the good old days of the Camellia Festival, when it included a parade, best blossom contest and mor? Why not celebrate cherry blossoms at the former Centrage site?
