The Ohio-based Wendy’s Co. has sold 19 of its Sacramento-area restaurants to longtime franchisee Desmond Foods L.P. of Fresno.
The transactions, formally announced last Friday, were part of a larger package that also included the sale of 30 company-owned Wendy’s outlets in the Austin, Texas area. The Austin restaurants were sold to HAZA Foods LLC in Austin.
Financial details were not disclosed.
Desmond has been a Wendy’s franchisee since 1973. It operates another 17 Wendy’s restaurants in the Fresno area and seven others in the Bay Area.
Wendy’s announced plans in July to concentrate its restaurant ownership through the sale of about 425 company-operated restaurants in 13 U.S. markets, primarily in the West. The company either sold or announced sales agreements for 282 restaurants in 2013.
Part of the process includes plans to revamp the design of some existing restaurants and development plans for new restaurants.
Wendy’s bills itself as the world's third-largest quick-service hamburger company, with more than 6,500 franchise and company-operated restaurants in the United States, U.S. territories and 28 other nations.
