San Juan staff held to higher standard

Re "School chief had good character" (Letters, Dec. 28): Letter writer Nancy Zepf misses the point. Perhaps, former Superintendent Glynn Thompson was trying to get something done, as she says, but bullying and intimidating to achieve change are not part of San Juan Unified School District's culture. As a 25-year San Juan teacher, I can verify that we strive for a higher ideal inside and outside of the classroom, one of collaborative teamwork in which respect and kindness are the norms. To allow anything less damages us all and opens a Pandora's box of negativity. These district leaders who suffered were right to assert their rights, and I'm grateful yet saddened at the responses from a few trustees who forgot our culture, along with civil rights protections. As role models for students and the community, we are rightly held to a higher standard. -- Karla Davis, Folsom
