Hens deserve ethical treatment

Published: Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014 - 7:10 am

Re "Egg import ban was ruse" (Letters, Dec. 27): Will Coggin of the Center for Consumer Freedom seems to find the idea of compassion for animals reprehensible. California voters decided to choose compassion over money and give hens the ability to move, to spread their wings a tiny bit, to possibly be treated as living, sentient beings, as opposed to objects that are used and abused until they have nothing left to give. The factory farming industry is terrified that the cruel practices inherent to their operations are being exposed and outlawed and will do anything to keep us in the dark. Don't fall for their ruses.
