Re "Pension cuts irk younger veterans" (Page A1, Dec. 31): While I sympathize with retiring veterans losing some of their pensions, I hope they are equally as upset about people losing their unemployment and food stamps. Let's be realistic here: The article mentions that Lt. Col. Stephen Preston will be collecting $55,000 a year without working. He is looking at losing only $500 year. My husband has been without an income for a whole year, looking everywhere for a job. He has worked and paid taxes for 25 years and now, due to the new budget, will receive no more unemployment. I wish we had a $55,000 annual income without working and were facing a $500 cut. Instead, millions of Americans now are asking themselves how they going to manage with no money.
