Postgame notes: DeMarcus Cousins picks up 10th technical foul of season in loss to Sixers

DeMarcus Cousins was called for his 10th technical foul of the season with 7:21 left in the second quarter for shoving Philadelphia forward Evan Turner during the Kings’ 113-104 loss to the Sixers Thursday night at Sleep Train Arena.

Cousins would be suspended one game if he is called for a 16th technical foul. Players are suspended by the league for every other technical foul after their 16th.

Cousins has needed the NBA to rescind technical fouls in each of the last two seasons to avoid a suspension.

“Obviously it’s concerning,” said Kings coach Michael Malone. “We hope he doesn’t get to the limit where he’s suspended but that’s something we continue to talk about. And he’s got to be able to harness his emotion and use it in a positive way and not allow it to get to that point because he’s too important to this team. He knows that because we can’t have him getting techs.”

Malone also noted Isaiah Thomas, who picked up his second tech of the season, and Jason Thompson, who was called for a tech in Houston when saying the Kings need to do a better job of keeping their cool.

Thompson has four technical fouls, second most on the team. Malone has three technical fouls and Thomas has two.

*Thaddeus Young had six steals, including five in the first half. The five steals in a half, tying an arena record.

*The Kings have had 20 or more turnovers in three of their last five games. The Kings had 23 turnovers, leading to 27 points for the 76ers.
