Authorities seek dog that bit woman at Woodland dog park

Yolo County Animal Services officials seek help locating a dog involved in a biting incident at a Woodland dog park on New Year’s Day.

The incident occurred about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Woodland Community Dog Park, on East Street near the Senior Center. A woman was bitten by a pit bull-Labrador mix as she attempted to stop the biting dog, which was playing too rough with her own dog, according to a Yolo County Sheriff’s Office news release. The woman suffered puncture wounds to the hand.

The biting dog is described as large and brown in color, with white on its front legs. The person in charge of the dog called the animal by a name that sounded like Beau, Boot or Boat, according to the victim, who told authorities that she thought the dog was wearing a red collar, although she saw no identification tags.

The dog’s owner or caregiver was described as a white man, possibly in his 60s, wearing a brown or black fedora-style hat, purple V-neck T-shirt, jeans and Nike shoes.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department’s Animal Services Section at (530) 668-5287, or email animal.bite@yolocounty.org. Identifying the dog to verify a current rabies vaccination could spare the victim post-exposure rabies treatment.

Authorities noted that, under the California Health and Safety Code, anyone who knows the location and ownership of a biting dog and conceals that information is guilty of a misdemeanor.
