e-waste, shredding

What: The Sacramento Breakfast Optimist Club and Kohl’s Cares Program are holding an e-waste and document-shredding fundraiser in the Kohl’s store parking lot in Arden Arcade. Proceeds will go to more than 30 Sacramento youth programs supported by the Optimist Club. The club will collect clothing and e-waste, such as monitors, television sets, desktop computers and stereo equipment. Large household appliances, such as refrigerators, washers and dryers, cannot be accepted. The club will also shred documents from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

When: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Cost: Clothing and e-waste, $5 per car; shredding documents, $5 per box



Animé in the winter

What: Japanese-influenced pop culture will be showcased at the SacAnimé Winter 2014 event, which takes place at the Sacramento Convention Center. More than 10,000 fans, many in costume, are expected to attend. There will be live concerts by Nylon Pink, Kazha and Raj Ramayya, as well as karaoke contests, video game tournaments, panels, workshops and more.

Cats all weekend

What: The International Cat Show, “Mardi Gras Madness,” continues at the Red Lion Woodlake Inn in Sacramento. There will be 18 rings featuring more than 200 cats.

Where: 500 Leisure Lane, Sacramento.

Cost: Adults, $7; children age 6 to 12 and seniors, $6; children 5 and younger, free



All about orchids

What: Kifumi Keppler, Exotic Plants owner and founder, will present a free orchid workshop. Keppler started her company more than 42 years ago.

Library turns 4

What: A carnival-themed party will celebrate the North Natomas Library’s fourth anniversary. There will be carnival games, prizes, face painting and balloons at the celebration, sponsored by Friends of the North Natomas Library. SactoMoFo will provide food trucks.
