Re "Cartoon caption contest" (Opinion, Jan. 1): Contrary to what is suggested by one of the three captions that made the final cut in the newspapers editorial cartoon contest, opponents of the $258 million public subsidy for the downtown arena project are intelligent, thoughtful and analytical Sacramentans who are concerned about the way their tax money and the city revenues are spent. A public vote on such a controversial issue is the democratic and smart way to go. By selecting Bob Seikkula's suggested cartoon caption as a contest finalist, The Bee has sunk to a new low level of propagandizing the new arena project. How would supporters of the downtown arena feel if a caption framed them as mentally ill patients?
