Spooky train rides
to start Saturday
It’s too late to book a ride to the “North Pole” this year, but you can still climb aboard a “Spookamotive.”
The California State Railroad Museum is offering special Halloween-themed excursion train rides on Saturdays and Sundays from Oct. 12 through Oct. 27. Trains will depart on the hour from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. from the Central Pacific Railroad Freight Depot on Front Street in Old Sacramento. “Skeleton” crews will pass out toys as the train trundles along the Sacramento River. The trip includes a Halloween story and spooky music.
Ticket prices for regular coach are $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6 to 17, and free for kids 5 and under. Visit www.csrmf.org for more information and to buy tickets. Those taking the 4 p.m. train can buy a ticket that includes an hourlong Hornblower River Cruise, also with a Halloween theme, that leaves Old Sacramento at 5:30 p.m.
The museum website says tickets for its popular Christmas-themed excursion rides, which start Nov. 29, are sold out for the year. The Polar Express train travels along the river to visit Santa on a set of flatcars transformed to look like his North Pole headquarters.
