Re "Imagine governors' Rose Bowl bet" (Letters, Jan. 1): I enjoyed Steve Franks' clever letter with a large guffaw at the final sentence, which suggested that, if Michigan State lost the Rose Bowl, the Michigan governor would happily give Detroit to Gov. Jerry Brown. But I think to make the imaginary bet really equitable, Brown should have promised that, if Michigan State won, he would give Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder the entire California State Legislature permanently. Better a bankrupt city than bankrupt politicians.
