Sacramento’s Urijah Faber will fight Renan Barao for the UFC bantamweight championship in the main event of UFC 169 on Feb. 1 in Newark, N.J.

Faber is replacing Dominick Cruz, who pulled out of the card with a groin injury and was forced to vacate the bantamweight title.

Barao (31-1), named champion after Cruz’s withdrawal, instead will fight Faber (30-6), the former WEC featherweight champion, in a rematch of a July 2012 bout for the interim bantamweight crown won by Barao in an unanimous decision.

Since that loss to Barao, Faber has won four straight fights, including a victory over Modesto’s Michael McDonald in the co-main event of UFC on Fox 9 last month at Sleep Train Arena.
