Leaders should mandate credit-care security

Re “Tougher measures are needed now to prevent another credit card breach” (Viewpoints, Jan. 4): Diana Dykstra’s comments regarding digital chips and the need for them in the United States point up a disturbing fact: While many responsible individuals call for immediate action to improve credit-card security, our elected officials at the state and national level remain strangely silent. Are these officeholders are so firmly in the pocket of retailers and card providers that consumers must continue to be victims of big business practices that protect profit at our expense? I've seen the advantage of the digital cards in both Canada and Europe. I thought we elected representatives to speak for the people, not just a privileged few.
