Re Don't let progress ihttp://www.sacbee.com/2014/01/04/6044985/editorial-dont-let-hard-won-gains.htmln Afghanistan go without a fight (Editorials, Jan. 4): Despite the commitment of hundreds of billions of dollars, the loss of 6,600 Americans, and countless Iraqis and Afghans, our wars have failed to accomplish much of anything. Mostly, we just kicked a hornets nest when we should have just left it alone. Is having al-Qaida forces in Iraq and President Hamid Karzai in Afghanistan any better than dealing with former Iraq President Saddam Hussein and the Taliban? I'm enormously sympathetic to the families who lost love ones, and I'll honor their sacrifices, but not by sending more people to die in support of failed policy. It's hard to admit our mistakes, but we've failed and, short of going all in, we won't succeed. We should pull out now before one more dollar or life is spent.
