Published: Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014 - 7:26 am

The driver of a vehicle who died in a crash in Rancho Cordova on Monday has been identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s office.

The motorist was identified as Mark Williams, 46, of Rancho Cordova.

The crash that killed Williams occurred about 6 p.m. Monday on Douglas Road between Timberland Drive and Rancho Cordova Parkway. The Nissan coupe he was driving was reported traveling eastbound at speeds well in excess of the posted speed limits, according to a Rancho Cordova Police Department news release.

The front of the Nissan collided with the rear of an eastbound Toyota sedan, and the Toyota traveled off the roadway, striking a power pole. The Nissan then crossed into the westbound lane where it collided head on with a westbound Chevrolet, according to police.

Williams was pronounced dead at the scene. The other drivers were treated at local hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries.

Based on preliminary findings, police said the cause of the collision appears to be speed-related, but the crash remains under investigation.
