The San Francisco 49ers face a different sort of playoff hurdle Sunday when they play the Carolina Panthers in second-round NFC game in Charlotte, N.C.

The 49ers' first-round opponent, the Green Bay Packers, featured a dangerous offense but a defense with some soft spots. Carolina's defense has no soft spots.

The Panthers are the best team in the NFL against the run, and the 49ers are the third-best running team in the league. So something will need to give.

Fans can follow the game on television, radio and online.

TV: 10:05 a.m. Fox40 - Fox will use its No. 1 team of play-by-play man Joe Buck and analyst Troy Aikman, as well as reporter Pam Oliver to cover the game.

ESPN's "NFL Countdown" pregame show begins at 7 a.m. and will feature news and features about the 49ers-Panthers game as well as the AFC matchup between the San Diego Chargers and Denver Broncos. The Chargers-Broncos game is scheduled for 1:40 p.m. and will be televised by CBS, locally on KOVR.

Radio: The game will be broadcast on ESPN radio 1320 and KNBR 680. Play by play will be handled by Ted Robinson, and former 49ers defensive back Eric Davis will provide color analysis.

Online: A live blog featuring Twitter feeds from The Bee's Matt Barrows as well as reporters from the Charlotte Observer and other sources will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday, providing real-time reports, insights and comments.
