The fog rolled in Wednesday after a stretch of sunny days in the Sacramento area, but Carley Gross, left, and Cydney Yates, both 13, chatted outdoors anyway before the start of school at Alice Birney Waldorf-Inspired K-8 School.

Weather during the first week of the new year has been dry and warm – with not a drop of rain and temperatures way above normal for winter. The normal daytime high temperature this time of year is 53 degrees in Sacramento. But this year, a high pressure system delivered a string of 60-degree days. On Wednesday, the high temperature at Sacramento Executive Airport cooled to 56 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

On Tuesday, a record for Jan. 7 was tied when the mercury hit 65 degrees in Sacramento. That temperature matched the all-time high set in 2012.

A 30 percent chance of rain is forecast for Saturday in Sacramento, according to the weather service.
