The elegant double arch of the Spanish Creek Bridge has received the national “Best of the Best” highway bridge project award for 2013.

Engineering News-Record, a weekly magazine providing analysis, news and opinion for the construction industry, selected the 627-foot concrete span over Spanish Creek in Plumas County from a field of 700 projects, said Trisha Coder, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Transportation in Northern California.

The national award, announced Thursday, follows the $29 million project’s recognition in May as the Northern California region’s award winner, selected over projects such as the Dumbarton Bridge seismic retrofit.
