Re "City may order water cuts" (Our Region, Jan. 9): Considering the looming specter of full-scale water rationing by citizens and business, it seems appropriate that we should look at how water is being consumed, and by whom. Perhaps, one of the first areas of investigation should be water consumed in recreational pursuits. One instance that springs to mind is water consumed for the maintenance of the more than 20 golf courses in the Sacramento suburban area. How much water is currently being used to water course greens and is it reclaimed or gray water that's being used? What plans are being made, or have been implemented, to reduce water consumption for a sport pursued by a small segment of the overall population?
