Sacramento Superior Court Judge Steve White on Friday sentenced Joson Vang to life in prison with no chance of parole for the June 23, 2009, murder of Keith Fessler during a residential robbery.

Vang, 27, is the cousin of Ronnie Vang, 32, who is facing the death penalty in the case. Closing arguments in the penalty phase of Ronnie Vang’s trial are scheduled for Monday.

According to evidence at trial, Ronnie Vang shot and killed the 44-year-old Fessler during the burglary of his home on Carella Drive, in the Meadowview area. Witnesses quoted Ronnie Vang, who had just been paroled from prison four days earlier, as saying he killed Fessler because he didn’t want to be identified in a case that could have sent him back to prison.

Evidence at trial showed that Joson Vang’s DNA was found inside Fessler’s house.
