Wall Street likes do-nothing Congress

Re “Do-nothing House sets up to sink in new low in 2014” (Editorials, Jan. 7): In a totalitarian government, the last thing the controlling corporate powers want is a legislature that actually does something. If government leaders acted, the next thing you know they might enact laws contrary to the wishes of the corporations. For example, lawmakers might extend unemployment insurance, resulting in more business taxes. They might pass laws restricting Wall Street and banks. They might deal with ecological problems by imposing solutions that burden business in general. The only question is, how are these corporate giants going to enjoy their profits if the world becomes uninhabitable due to global warming?
