A buck wanders through an area of forest where all vegetation was killed. Three months after the 257,000-acre Rim Fire that swept through the Stanislaus National Forest, Yosemite National Park and private timberland from Aug. 17, 2013, until it was contained at the end of September, all that remains on tens of thousands of acres are dead standing trees and brown needles. Many animals that survived the fire will starve to death for lack of food. This photo was taken Dec. 28, 2013, off of Evergreen Road, the main road to the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir.
