AAA releases its gasoline price survey Tuesday
Motorists in the Sacramento area and throughout California enjoyed stable or declining gasoline prices throughout the holiday season, but prices have started edging upward to start 2014. On Tuesday, AAA will release its monthly survey of gas prices, breaking down average pump costs in jurisdictions throughout the state.

Hart Senior Center reopens after renovation
Sacramentos Ethel M. Hart Senior Center, temporarily closed for renovations last year, is celebrating a grand reopening Thursday that includes a celebration lunch for the first 200 attendees. The center at 27th and J streets in midtown is home to the citys Older Adult Services programs. An open house begins at 10 a.m. Thursday, followed by the 11:30 a.m. lunch, a raffle at 1 p.m. and dancing until 4:30 p.m. While renovations including an overhaul to the building heating and air conditioning were underway, the centers senior programs were held at Coloma Community Center in east Sacramento.

Impoving sleep is focus of Sacramento co-op talk
Chiropractor Damon West will lead a discussion titled Improving Your Sleep at the Sacramento Natural Food Coop Learning Center, 1914 Alhambra Blvd. in Sacramento, at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The latest research and technology in the study of sleep will be discussed, along with techniques for improving sleep and the foods and supplements that help the body rest. The cost is $5.
Sac Metro Chamber offers orientation session
The Sacramento Metro Chambers monthly orientation session takes place from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the chambers offices, 1 Capitol Mall, Suite 300, in Sacramento. Attendees are shown how to access programs and services that are available to members. Members and potential members are welcome, but the chamber asks people to register in advance.

Learn to download free e-books at Folsom library
Folsom Public Library at 411 Stafford St. is offering a lesson on how to download free library e-books. People who attend the event from 10 a.m. to noon Friday will need to bring their library card and PIN password. Kindle users should bring their Amazon account information.

Lecture at UC Davis canceled
Hamid Dabashi, a professor of Iranian studies and comparative literature at Columbia University in New York, was scheduled to speak at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Mondavi Center at UC Davis as part of Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehis distinguished speakers series. The even has been canceled due to an illness.
