With record warmth and even a 70-degree day forecast for this week, could a false spring be in the air?
The National Weather Service is forecasting a high of 70 degrees on Wednesday, which is 15 degrees above normal for the Sacramento region. The rest of the week is also expected to be warm.
Could that warmth cause vegetation to emerge from its dormant stage, making fresh growth vulnerable to freezes later on in the winter? Today’s high is expected to be 66 degrees, which is just under the record maximum temperature for Jan. 13 of 67 degrees, a mark set in 2012.
No rain is predicted for the week and none fell on Saturday when skies grew dark but delivered only a few sprinkles in Sacramento. No rain has been recorded in Sacramento since Dec. 7.
