Ask Sacto 911 Crime Q&A: Was Elk Grove man convicted in 2009 child porn case?

Published: Monday, Jan. 13, 2014 - 9:37 pm

A few years back, a man named Robert Winters was arrested for participating in an on-line child pornography ring. He was elderly and denied participation. Was he ever convicted?

– Brenda, Elk Grove

Robert Charles Winters pleaded no contest in February 2010 to a felony count of possession of child pornography, according to Sacramento Superior Court online records.

He was sentenced to 180 days in a work furlough program and three years probation.

According to news accounts, Winters, then 82 years old, was arrested in December 2009 in a sting operation conducted by the Sacramento Valley Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, a task force made up of federal and local law enforcement agents. Winters was allegedly downloading child pornography on his computer when officers served a search warrant at his Elk Grove home. He reportedly was one of 18 men arrested as part of the sting operation.
